About Debre Tabor University

Debre Tabor University (DTU) was established in 2008 on 126 hectares of land in the Eastern part of the town of Debre Tabor. Its foundation stone was laid by Addisu Legesse (the then Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia) and Demeke Mekonen (the then V/President of Amhara regional State and the current Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia). Its training mission however, took three years until the necessary inputs (like buildings, lab equipment, human resource, administrative structures, etc.) are fulfilled. Its actual missions of admitting and training students, therefore, began in 2011 in five faculties. These are: faculty of Social Science, faculty of Natural Science, faculty of Agriculture, faculty of business and Economics and faculty of Engineering.

Today all the five faculties are promoted to a rank of colleges as their capacity has continuously grown since then. A new college(the college of medicine) was also established latter and has become one of the leading medical institution in the all over Ethiopia as its graduates are more proficient than graduates in other universities, given it works with a hybrid curriculum which is recommended to be a benchmark by the ministry of health, Ethiopia.

Debre Tabor University began its task of teaching with 628 students, 124 teaching staffs and 71 assistant personnel. Today, DTU reached at a capacity of accommodating 35,000 students in regular, weekend and summer programs. Currently, Debre Tabor University has about 1200 (one thousand two hundred teaching staffs) and nearly 800 (eight hundred administrative workers).Debre Tabor University has been recognised by by world institutions like THE , QS etc and have collabarations all around world for research and quality enhancement.
